Laos is a beautiful country located in Southeast Asia known for its rich history, its scenic landscapes and a welcoming local culture. It is landlocked by China, Cambodia, Myanmar, Vietnam and Thailand but it has a booming tourism industry that people from all over the world flock to every year.
In order to make it easier for people to visit the country, the government of Laos has introduced an electronic travel authorization known as the Laos eVisa Approval Letter. This allows the citizens of 150 countries including the US, the UK, Canada, EU member states, Australia and New Zealand among others to apply for a Laos eVisa online. This saves travelers the trouble of having to visit a local Lao embassy or consulate and queue in long lines in order to obtain a visa.
Instead, travelers can instead take a few minutes of their time to fill out an online application and within a few days’ time their visa will arrive via email.
The eVisa allows the travelers one single entry into Laos from one of these points of entry:
- Wattay International Airport (Vientiane Capital)
- Lao-Thai Friendship Bridge I (Vientiane Capital)
- Luang Prabang International Airport (Luang Prabang Province)
- Lao-Thai Friendship Bridge II (Savanakhet Province)
- Pakse International Airport (Champasack Province)
The Laos eVisa also allows the traveler a maximum stay of up to 30 days in the country. If the traveler wishes to stay longer in the country or if he/she requires multiple entries into the country, he/she should consider applying for a Laos tourist visa from a local Lao embassy or consulate.
Citizens of New Zealand are also eligible to apply for other types of visas offered by the government of Laos including visa on arrival. Therefore, they should look through the list of different visa types and apply for one that best suits their travel needs.
