The Laotian government has recently rolled out the Laos eVisa Approval Letter which is directed at promoting tourism in the country by making it easier for people to visit Laos. This measure will allow the citizens of 150 countries to obtain their tourist visa to Laos Online without having to visit a local Laos Embassy or Consulate. Travelers are able to complete an online application form with their personal and passport details followed by receiving the Laos eVisa Approval letter within a matter of days.

Depending on the traveler’s nationality, there are different types of Laos tourist visas options available to him/her. Travelers may be able to apply for a Laos eVisa, Visa on Arrival or a tourist visa from a Laos Embassy or Consulate depending on agreements their respective countries have in place with the government of Laos.

Laos eVisa Application Process for Norwegian Visitors

Norwegian citizens are eligible to apply for a Laos eVisa Approval Letter which is an electronic travel authorization allowing them to obtain a visa for Laos online without the hassle of visiting an embassy or consulate.

In order to do so, Norwegian citizens will have to meet certain basic requirements to ensure that their eVisa application will be successful. These requirements include having a valid email address, a valid credit/debit card, a recent photo of themselves and a valid passport from an eligible country.

In addition to that, travelers will need to take the following documents with them in order to be allowed entry into the country:

  • Passport validity of at least 6 months after arrival in Laos
  • A recent color photo of the Applicant
  • An approved Laos eVisa
  • Additional documents that may be required

Can Norwegian Citizens Change Some Information on the Laos eVisa Application After Submitting It?

Applicants of the Laos online eVisa are able to update/change the information submitted in the online application by using a link sent to them via email when they first submit the application. This link can also be used to upload any additional documents that may be required of them at a time later than when they first started filling out the application.

Applicants are always encouraged to submit all documents in a timely manner in order to receive their Laos eVisa in time for their travel. Typically, applicants should apply for the Laos eVisa at least 7 days before they travel to the country in order to allow for any delays that might occur with the processing of their application. It is also important for them to note that it can take up to 3 business days for their Laos eVisa Approval Letter to be processed after all sections of the application have been filled out and all the necessary documentation submitted. Therefore, it is worthwhile for travelers to consider applying for the Laos eVisa well in advance of their travel to the country.

Laos eVisa Requirements for Norwegian Citizens to Enter Laos

Norwegian travelers will need to complete the online application which can be accessed via the Laos Online eVisa website. The online application will ask the applicant to list personal details like name, date of birth etc. as well as some passport information.

Applicants should note that the information they provide on the eVisa application form should be accurate and match the information shown on the applicant’s passport. Mismatch or inaccurate information on the eVisa application form can result in a visa denial or have the traveler barred from entry into Laos.

Once the traveler submits an accurate and complete online eVisa application form, he/she will receive the Laos eVisa Approval Letter via email once the processing has been completed on his/her application. The Laos eVisa Approval Letter allows the traveler to enter from one of two points of entry into Laos:

  • Wattay International Airport (Vientiane Capital)
  • Lao-Thai Friendship Bridge I (Vientiane Capital)
  • Luang Prabang International Airport (Luang Prabang Province)
  • Lao-Thai Friendship Bridge II (Savanakhet Province)
  • Pakse International Airport (Champasack Province)

The traveler must take a printed copy of his/her Laos eVisa Approval letter with him/her to be presented to Laos officials along with the passport at either of the two points of entry into Laos through which he/she arrives.

Traveling to Laos from Norway

The Laos eVisa allows for a single entry into Laos and the traveler is allowed a stay of up to 30 days in the country. In the event the traveler intends to visit the country more than once or wants to stay longer than 30 days, he/she will have to obtain a Laotian tourist visa from a local embassy or consulate.

Norwegian citizens are also eligible to apply for a visa-on-arrival in Laos. In order to do so, Norwegian travelers will have to complete a visa-on-arrival application at any of the 22 ports of entry through which they arrive. They will also need to submit 2 recent passport-sized color photographs and have cash to pay the visa fee at the port of entry to be allowed into Laos. Travelers can expect to stand in long queues to have their visa-on-arrival application processed, therefore, applying for the eVisa beforehand is highly encouraged to ensure an expedited service upon arrival.
